Welcome to the Greater Madison MPO

The Greater Madison MPO leads the collaborative planning and funding of a sustainable, equitable transportation system for the Greater Madison region. The MPO is responsible for comprehensive planning and decision making to build agreement on transportation investments that balance roadway, public transit, bicycle, pedestrian and other transportation needs to achieve an exceptional quality of life for all within the region.

Draft 2024-2028 Transportation Improvement Program and Notice of Public Hearing

The Draft 2024-2028 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Madison Metropolitan Area & Dane County is now available for review and comment. The TIP lists major transportation improvements and studies anticipated to be undertaken during the next five-year period.

The virtual public hearing was held on September 6th, 2023. Action on the 2024-2028 TIP by the MPO is anticipated at the board’s October 4th meeting to be held virtually.  Written comments on the TIP are invited through Friday, September 22, and should be sent to the MPO offices at 100 State St., Suite 400, Madison, WI  53703 or e-mailed to mpo@cityofmadison.com.

Greater Madison MPO Announces Approval of Over $17 Million in Federal Funding for Local Projects

The Greater Madison MPO has approved $9.4 million for bicycle and pedestrian path projects – including the long-awaited Glacial Drumlin/Capital City Connector and the final segment of the West Towne Path – and $8.1 million for roadway projects through the federal Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) – Urban program.
