alternative work schedule

Flex Time – Employees are given flexibility on when they arrive at work and when they leave while still working a typical number of hours each day.  This flexibility often makes it easier to take transit, find a carpool partner or vanpool.

Compressed Work Week – A compressed work week schedule permits employees the option of finishing their usual number of working hours in fewer days per week, or pay period.  Employees might work four 10-hour days per week or work 80 hours in nine days. This configuration reduces peak hour congestion and can reduce employees’ driving related stress.

Staggered Shifts – Employees arrival and departure times are staggered by anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours.  The main purpose of this is to shift people out of the peak commuting period in order to relieve traffic congestion.
